Warren was born on November 10, 1970 in the Duckworth-Lewis memorial hospital in Napa County, California Napa county California, to entrepreneurial winemaker Warren Griffin Jr., owner of the extensive Griffin vineyards and his wife, the Belgian royal Nicole Griffin (born Nicole Acoz-Marie) via an unknown surrogate. Warren attended several prestigious european schools such as his mother's old school, the Institut de la Vierge Fidèle and St Paul's School, London St Paul's Boy's School, London where he met his lifelong friend and occasional charity tennis partner Chancellor of the Exchequer British Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne. Warren admits that he had a privileged and contented childhood. However at the age of 16 he legally divorced his parents following disputes over their decision to entrust their entire estate to Nicole's biological son, Warren's younger brother Richard. Warren then moved to Tokyo to write video game soundtracks for Sega. In this capacity, Warren sampled the Michael McDonald (singer) Michael McDonald song I Keep Forgettin' (Every Time You're Near) for use in the game After Burner, an act he would repeat when writing his hit song Regulate (song) Regulate some 7 years later.
